As part of restructuring and consolidation measures within the Wirthwein Group, important series production volumes are being relocated to Creglingen, including robot automation systems and large tools weighing up to 25 tons. The relocated projects also include online assembly directly on the machine as well as offline assembly, which will be integrated into separate areas of the Creglingen plant. The logistics volume will increase significantly to around 1,600 pallets of finished goods per day, which will also result in a correspondingly large volume of empty containers. The current construction projects will therefore significantly improve the logistics processes for the plastic components produced at the plant and the storage of the tools required for this.
New construction of the tool warehouse
Wirthwein operates its own toolmaking facility at its Creglingen site, which represents a significant competitive advantage thanks to its extensive expertise. Here, around 40 skilled workers use state-of-the-art machinery to manufacture the molds required for the injection molding process. Professional storage of the molds and optimal tool logistics are essential, which is why a new tool warehouse is being built right next to the existing logistics hall. The previous storage area for injection molding tools will be needed in the future for series production of additional projects and for new projects. The tool warehouse will have a total area of 700 square meters.
New construction of an outdoor canopy for logistics
At the same time, a new covered logistics area is being built, which at 1,600 m² is more than twice the size of the tool storage hall. The roof will primarily serve to provide weather-protected storage for empty containers and temporary storage for finished goods awaiting picking and loading. Chief Technology Officer Holm Riepenhausen explains: “Until 2027, our headquarters in Creglingen will be one of our main areas of investment; in addition to the construction of the new buildings, we will be investing in the necessary machinery and equipment with the appropriate infrastructure.” “With this growth, Wirthwein is creating around 35 new jobs and, together with the investments already made in the past, is demonstrating its long-term commitment to its headquarters in Creglingen,” concludes Marcus Wirthwein, Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
